Never-started social businesses

Posted in: ,

Since the 1990’s I’ve been keeping a list of business ideas that I will most likely never execute. I’ve shared three social business ideas on LinkedIn. Hopefully I can inspire someone, in some way. Do get in touch to brainstorm, or if you need a co-founder who can do the back-office 💩 !

Idea 1: LocalTees

The concept

Sourcing t-shirts from small local clubs & communities around the world, and selling them.

Why?

👉🏼 Cool & unique t-shirts
A t-shirt from a local Albanian mushroom foraging club or a table-tennis team from a Venezuelan village is much cooler than the latest fashionable brand. At least that’s what I think.

👉🏼 Help local communities
We’d source (discarded) t-shirts created for small local clubs & communities around the world. We pay them a good price – and thereby sponsor local initiatives that could surely use the extra income.

If the t-shirt is sold well, the local club can print more and raise more funds. On our website, you can check out the unique story of the local club / community. Consumers could make an extra donation there too. Local initiatives can use the website to promote their story worldwide and raise more funds.

Idea 2: Work with freelancers in developing countries

The concept

A platform that connects freelancers in developing countries with companies in the “rich West”.

Why?

👉🏼 Hiring an Iraqi freelancer is cheaper than a German one
👉🏼 Money that ends up directly in entrepreneurs’ pockets is so much more efficient than the billions on development aid governments and individuals are spending
👉🏼 We build relations with people in countries we often have prejudices about

Idea 3: CultureMate

The concept

An app that connects culture lovers who don’t want to go to an event alone.

Why?

👉🏼 Most of my friends don’t have my weird taste in music & art. It’s more fun to connect with someone, but I’m not the type of person who starts chatting with other visitors easily.
👉🏼 Cultural spaces benefit – double audience.

This video is of a performance (by Richard Hronský) I visited (solo) in Athens in January this year. Told you I had a weird taste….
